OUR THERAPY SPACE
Psychosexual & relational therapy for intimacy, sexual wellbeing and emotional connection.

Does something in your relationships, your body, or your sense of self feel stuck, confusing, or distressing?

You might not have the right words for it yet.
That's often where therapy begins.

I offer a calm, confidential space to explore what is happening beneath the surface.
Always at your pace and always without judgement.

“Safety is not the absence of threat, it is the
presence of connection”

Gabor Maté

ABOUT

ABOUT ME

Hello and a warm welcome to Our Therapy Space.

I’m Nicola De Maine, a fully qualified and  BACP accredited counsellor and psychotherapist,  and a psychosexual and relationship therapist in advanced specialist training.

I work with adults navigating intimacy, sexual wellbeing, emotional connection, identity, and the impact of life transitions or distress.

My approach is grounded, relational, anti-oppressive and trauma-informed. I aim to offer a space where difficult or sensitive experiences can be spoken about safely, free from judgement or pressure.

How I came to this work

I have a clinical background in NHS oncology counselling, where I supported people facing complex emotional and psychological responses to illness, treatment, and life-limiting conditions.

This work shaped my understanding of how deeply interconnected our emotional, physical, and relational experiences are — particularly when life feels uncertain or disrupted.

Alongside this, I have worked within:

  • The St Pancras Sexual Problems Clinic, supporting a wide range of sexual dysfunction presentations within a specialist NHS setting.

  • Domestic abuse and relational trauma services.

Across these settings, I’ve worked with people experiencing distress that is often difficult to name, including issues around sexuality, identity, shame, anxiety, trauma, and relational patterns.

My approach

Therapy with me is not about “fixing” you, although many people do find their difficulties resolve.

It is about creating space to understand what is happening, how it has developed, and what it means for you now.

I work in an pluralistic way, drawing from:

  • Person-centred therapy

  • Cognitive behavioural therapy

  • Psychodynamic therapy

  • Psychosexual therapy training

  • Trauma-informed and relational models of care

At the heart of my work is a belief that people make sense in context.

We don't just explore thoughts and experiences, but also what is happening emotionally, physically, and relationally,  including how you might relate to yourself and others in intimate spaces.

Sessions move at your pace. There is no expectation to share more than feels manageable

Please note I do not offer a crisis service. If you need help immediately, please click the button below for signposting to other sources of support.

Alongside my counselling and psychotherapy qualifications, I have a first-class honours degree in Psychology and a Masters degree in Professional Writing. I am interested in how writing and story telling can be used effectively within a therapeutic setting and I encourage creativity in any form as part of the therapeutic process.
